Winter Peak-Bagging in the Adirondacks

When experience trumped enthusiasm in a summit bid, Jim Wallace committed to a life-long quest.

The Adirondack Mountains in New York include 46 peaks with elevations above 4,000 feet. Those adventurous enough to summit 550 of the Adirondack peaks in the snow, cold, and wind between December 21st and March 21st attain "Winter 46-er" status. Jim Wallace is one of those. Find out the inspiration behind his transformation from a 240 lb. pack-a-day smoking summit failure to a full-fledged Winter 46-er. "When you get to the top of the summit, and you see all the peaks around you...that is the answer. You feel, like, this is why I’m here."
