Rated 4 out of 5Â by Phil57 not heavy/ not light
The Sundowner has been a great and versatile boot. It's heavy enough to provide support while backpacking but light enough to not be a weight on the end of my legs. The leather is heavy enough to protect from rocks when backpacking yet supple enough to flex with my foot. Anecdotally, they seemed better when made in Italy.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by BringBackMyItalianBoots I loved these boots when they were made in Italy
Alas, I had to say goodby to my beloved pair of Vasque Sundowners after nearly two decades of hard wear. They have covered hundreds of trail miles through various terrain, weather, and loads. They were the best boots one could ask for in both the back and front country. I couldn't imagine wearing anything else. But the time came to retire them. My consolation was that there were still on the market. This, it turned out, was no consolation. The recent version of the boots are poor quality - they came apart where the leather meets the sole within a couple of weeks, the leather is poor quality and the lining tore away on the inside of the boot in one weekend trip. PLEASE oh PLEASE bring back the high-quality, Italian-crafted boot I loved and that made this boot such a staple in the hiking world. Until then, it pains me to say these boots ARENT made for walkin.

20 years ago I bought these boots to hike into the crater of Haleakala. The largest dormant volcano in the world. We camped overnight and hiked back out the next day. 20 years later they've been with me all over. Still great.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Tominrm Excellent for Long Distance Hiking
Last year, when I was 67, I purchased a pair for my long distance hiking per recommendation from my doctor who is a serious hiker. I broke in my boots about a month before I left for my 600 mile hike across the northern Spain called El Camino de Santiago. It started from the France side of Pyrenees and ended at the western end of Spain, town of Muxia.
The boots were very comforable and water proof until the last day when I walked in the rain for 7 hours. It was a little bit damp inside that day.
The boots were comfortable and durable. It showed a little bit of wear (less than 1/4 inch wear at the back) but unless someone tells me I need to get a new pair, I am going back to the same hike this year with my old pair of Sundowner.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Hazel Comfortable, but not waterproof
I just got these a few months ago and finally got out on the trail this past weekend. They are very comfortable and great for rocky wet surfaces. It was a wet hike and my left shoe was waterproof, but my right shoe leaked really bad where the leather meets the sole. Was hoping that this could be a hiking boot I'd wear for years and years, but I'm not sure now with the leaks. Other than that, it seems like a great shoe.

I keep coming back to these. They're getting me through Montreal winters right now. They've been to the top of Yosemite falls with a 60lb pack. All over the Sierras, and Santa Barbara's back country. Sometimes I wished they could breathe a little more, but I can solve that with a decent pair of socks. They're fast - I'm serious - try the same walk or hike with a different set of boots - you'd be surprised the difference. No blisters, no real issues with comfort. I use a pair of green super feet liners in mine. My right toe box is starting to show signs of wearing out. If Vasque can't repair it, I will probably have a burial service for these. I will immediately buy another pair.

my boots are 17 years old, I spent 2 years in a peace corps tour where I wore them all of the time! They have made it through kids, dogs, cabin builds and the only thing I have bought were new laces!
I LOVE these boots!
