An excellent backcountry boot for times when terrain and pack weight call for substantial support and torsion control without sacrificing comfort or walkability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Backcountry Boot I have had these for over two years now and they have proved to be an excellent backcountry boot. I have backpacked and hiked up many a peaks (13k) here in New Mexico with these boots and they are outstanding. I have put literally thousands of tough miles on these boots and finally wore the soles out.Just like any full grain leather you need to treat the leather to maintain the waterproofing. Goretex only last so long before it breaks down in any application. I can confidently walk in water without fear of wet feet. Traction is excellent in snow and loose scree fields a like. The rubber toe and side protection protect the leather from gouges and scuffs in rock fields. They lasted better than the pair of Zamberlan Vioz I bought at twice the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so waterproof I bought these because the shoe store didnt have Asolo 520's in stock so i figured i would give them a try. Im a helicopter mechanic and waterproof hiking boots are the norm. I wear them for basicly half my life. I expect about 2 years out of a boot like this as that is what i get out of Asolo. First off i was very happy with the fit. Hardly any break in time. Durability seems very good one year after purchase. However. The waterproofing did not last. My feet get totaly soaked now. I may as well paid half as much for a comfy boot with no waterproofing as i have to carry a second set of boots now for the rain. If waterproofing isnt a concern then buy these boots. They are very comfy. But for me its back to Asolo 520

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Devil is in the details First off- love the concept design of this boot. I love all leather hikers. Not sure I would classify this as a backpacker as the sole is not extremely ridged. This being said. I have worn mine for 6 months for 10-12 hours a day doing farm work on my feet. When I get home my feet do not hurt! This was straight out of the box! I'm just beginning to see the rubber delaminate from the leather upper and I had one of the eyelets brake off its rivet. This was odd to me because it didn't see major action (unlike the other foot which shifted gears on an ATV extensively). Would like to see better glue used for sole to upper and redesign on the lace hardware.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falling Apart After 2 Hikes After only 2 hikes (40km total) the toes are peeling off as well as the side rubber protection. Considering the price I paid, I was expecting the store I bought them at to either replace them or repair them. Instead, I was told that I was 2 weeks over the warranty period and they sold me "Shoe Goo" to try and repair them which didn't work at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great boots but the biggest issue is the sharp boot eyelet hooks and laces The biggest issue is the sharp boot eyelet hooks and laces breaking over the sharp eyelets. Its a design flaw, you end up going through too many laces which you shouldn't have to. Listen these are beautiful boot from top to bottom and the Vibram sole, amazing but because of the design flaw of the sharp boot eyelet hooks and wearing laces, I wouldn't recommend buying these boots until they fix this design flaw. Vasque has good customer service but their recommendation with these Eriksson boots is that you sand down the eyelets with sand paper but that's impossible to do, its not easy which you can damage the leather besides scuff the body etc. Second, it should be a customers responsibility to sand down the defective design flaw to protect your laces, that's on Vasque because these boots don't come cheap, their expensive but the quality of the rest of the boot is incredible quality. I personally don't know how they could of missed this flaw because the laces literally cut themselves when you walk in them. So for that reason alone, they should recall these boots back to the warehouse or offer customers to send them to a boot repair shop to change the eyelets to a softer metal or tough plastic to replace the boot eyelets so laces won't break. With any boot, laces should never never break but these boots, you will go through a pair once a month or so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality! These boots are very comfortable and you can tell only the highest quality materials were used. They do run narrow so keep that in mind when you order.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falling apart Bought these because I had sundowners before and loved them. These one just got broke in and the rubber on the toe started to separate from the boot. Also at the bend point of the toe of the boot the sole is starting to separate. Definitely disappointed as I spent more for these than others I looked at because I believed in the Vasque products. Not so much anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for! These are some really solid boots. Normally whenever I buy hiking boots I get inserts to make them more comfortable but for the first time in 5 years they were good right from the start. I'm also a fan of any product that is actually waterproof! Normally worried when buying boots but I've hiked in rain, snow, on glaciers, and in desert sand and they haven't failed me yet. I've put about 400 miles on them so far and still not a single blister to be found. I will definitely be getting another pair.
