Superbly built boot. Durable, reliable, and all day comfort. I am a large person(6'5"&300lbs) and these bits do a great job of supporting me and a fully loaded pack. I got mine at my local Red Wing Store so they were able to stretch in certain spots for a custom fit. They are a bit narrow.

I needed a good, sturdy backpacking boot as I've started training for K9 Search and Rescue. I also needed my boots to be waterproof, but light as well as there would be a lot of bushwhacking and scrambling after my dog. I had a lot of choices, but settled on the Erikssons. I was worried as they looked a bit bulky in the photos. I was wrong.
I was a little surprised to when I got my shipment at how light the box was. Pulling the boots out, they were not bulky at all, in fact, they seemed too light for the sturdiness I needed and the leather felt on the stiff side. I worried that they would be stiff and hard to break in, or would roll on me as other boots had done in the past. Wrong again.
Somehow Vasque has managed to create a boot that does not feel heavy or stiff on your feet, but is robust enough to handle scrambling over rocks, through streams, etc. The boots were comfortable right out of the box.
One word of caution. The boots are so comfortable that you might be tempted to over do it. Take them out for a few test runs first... not to break them in, but to get your feet used to them. I did an 8 mile hike my first time out and got blisters on the sides of my big toes, but only because the boots were touching me in a new spot and my old calluses were not protecting me there. Another reviewer recommended adding Superfeet insoles... I don't know if that's necessary, but I'm going to give it a try as well.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Nativecutthroat12 Great Mountain boot and excellent company
These boots are amazing. The best thing that Vasque has come up with for the backpacker. High fit is great for those long hikes, fit true to size. I went with a Wide size after previously having the regular size. Love them, fit good and feel so comfortable. Awesome customer service and great company.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by mountains Great Product and Great Customer Service
I rarely write reviews, but I want to provide positive feedback regarding customer service at Vasque/Redwing Shoe Company! I had a defective hiking boot, I returned it to them, and within days a replacement product was shipped. I have owned a lot of outdoor boots over the years, and Vasque hits the mark. Great product and a great company!

Rated 4 out of 5Â by ChubbyTuna Great Boots, Just don't get what they were thinking with the grip
So far, these boots have been great. They fit pretty good after a little break in time and have stood up to some abuse. What I don't understand is what they were thinking when they designed the grip. If you look at the grip on the INSIDE from the middle up to the toe, it is great. If you look at the grip, on the OUTSIDE from about the middle up to the toe, there are a whole bunch of flat weird shaped grips which are completely useless when on slippery, rocky terrain and in mud. They are just too flat and not enough edges. It would be nice to have a grip style such as what's on the St. Elias GTX instead. It's almost as though someone randomly drew some designs and decided it would look "neat" on the bottom of the boot. That being said, they are still a great boot, could just use some minor improvements.

I've seen reviews that say the toe box runs narrow, but this is not the case. In my normal standard width, my toes have plenty of wiggle room. There is a bit of break in required, but there are no pressure points around the foot. I use Superfeet Carbon insoles and mid-weight socks with liners, and could go with heavy-weight socks if choose to. Length for a size nine is exactly the same as my Patagonia drifters, with a bit more room in the toe box. I compared the insoles and they are exactly the same size for my size nines.
Regarding how the boots stride, they roll nicely off the heel and have some flex coming off the ball of foot. Side to side they are very stable, helping maintain proper pronation.
I went with the Erikssons vs. the St. Elias because of the full grain leather and minimal weight difference. Amazon has great prices on them with some sizes much less than others. Overall, these boots offer comfort, quality and stability with a minimum of heft.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by BigRed Support, comfort, waterproof, grip...its got it all
I owned the same pair of Vasque boots for 16 yrs when they finally gave out at the seams. The treads were still pretty good after hundreds of miles. These boots had never let me down but I decided to try an alternate brand so purchased another pair of boots which I liked a lot. They sacrificed support for weight. Apparently sacrificing too much support for my ankles as I turned one of them within a week of wearing of them. I wont mention the brand but they were top of the line boots with the latest technologies. So I went back to Vasque buying the Eriksson GTX.
I am a 10 but went with the 10.5 wide as it felt better, didnt slip but left enough room for another pair of socks if needed. I am very happy I went with the half-size step up.
I broke them in locally for two weeks doing probably 20 miles with my dog on easy trails with roots and rocks and standing water. They felt great in only a short period of time. I had bought them for a trip and hiked for 6 days in the Great Smoky Mountains backpacking for 8-10 mile hikes each day...climbed Mt Leconte, which was really fun, climbed to Charles Bunion and along the AT for short little day hikes. Everything from steep to slight inclines. Water, mud, ice, snow, rain, wind, rocks, 20 degrees to 70 degrees (not kidding), these things were unreal. Never twisted my weak ankles, only slipped when i wasnt paying attention and making bad decisions, my feet were never cold, they were never wet even after walking through shallow rivers (4 inches of steady water). They were great.
Only problem was I did get a blister but that is probably my fault for pushing to hard and I have messed up wide feet with bunions so my bones jut out. Still, threw on another pair of socks and they were fine for the next three days (30 miles) or so.
I HIGHLY recommend these boots for people who want stability over weight. If you want lightweight for speed, these are definitely not for you. They are pretty heavy. But when you need it, you need it. People love to brag about how light they are blah blah...just do what you need to do to succeed and have fun and get into the woods!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by DickB Great boot!
I've been trail and about town backpacking with these boots for 6 months now, and they are the best I've found for my feet after many years of trying out different boots for my PCT hikes. So far, great comfort and no hint of blisters. I got the wider boot to avoid the toe blisters I've gotten in the past after several 15 to 20 mile days. The real test will come on the longer backpacks I plan for this summer.
