Rated 2 out of 5 by Wide Feet Beware! These are well crafted boot from the look and ware. But the new wide version is not the same as all the previous boots I have bought. I purchase About 4-5 pairs a year for my self and they have been very comfortable. I wear these boot 7 days week and over 12 hours a day. This newest manufacturing of boot are narrower than the predecessors. Considering the summit version of their boot hope that the lass has not changed to up hold the wider fit. The summit seems to fit better but miss the full toe rubber cover to protect the leather upper. February 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by mink oil Great boots, however I put mink oïl on the leather and the color of my bungee/gray boots darken seriously. Should be avoided. I'm not sure mink oil on gore-tex boots are good, I hope not to have damaged my boots. Great quality, fit quite small and unless you have a really narrow feet, wide size is recommended. March 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Clouds, they're like clouds... for my feet. My feet have never been this happy. I tried them on 3 different times before buying them to be sure. My god, the first day I got them I only took them off to sleep. I didn't know being in love with a pair of shoes was actually possible. I'll be taking them on a 6 month to year-long backpacking trip to India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam , so we'll see how they do! I'll check back in and probably have a lot more to say later about their performance for long trips! February 20, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I'm Flying Up the Hill I just bought these shoes in January. In a month, I have put around 40 miles on them, hiking especially my local East Bay Hills park. When I tried them on, I also tried on several other brands/models. These were the ONLY ones that fit perfectly not only while walking, but while on REI's little fake hill thing. No rolling here--no ankle twists even if I try. The boot is sturdy, grippy, and supportive. The day I bought them, I took them up to my favorite trail and flew up the hill. My old Solomon trail runners, various running shoes, and even Converse/Vans had been up that hill. I then realized that my old shoes had been pacing me, because I had no grip or stability. The same trail I now go on with the shoes broken in. I never experienced blisters--just hot spots on my toes due to my gait I suppose, for the first couple hikes. Now, my feet don't even hurt, much less have any hot spots. As one reviewer said, my toes feel like they are in a little apartment. But not in a slippy way. Since these are waterproof, that of course means they don't breathe (duh), but some nice wool socks keep your feet comfy. I hope these last a long time, because I love them. February 20, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful boot This boot fits me like a glove! I have not had a chance to wear them outside yet but I have no doubt they will perform beautifully. January 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by THE BEST SHOES I HAVE EVER PURCHASED I'd like to start by saying that I'm kind of a girly girl. I've purchased lots of great shoes in my life, from Prada to Converse, but hands down are these the best boots/shoes I have ever purchased. I bought these boots along with a pair of Chacos to go on a safari and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa with a 60 kg bag. In hindsight, I never even needed the Chacos. I wore these boots with everything and conquered all sorts of terrain and weather. Even after living in Colorado, I've alway purchased satisfactory boots but these by far surpass everything. They withstood the clay mud in the Serengeti, the torrential rains of the Tanzanian rain forests (leaving me the only person with warm and dry feet), and kept my feet warm and dry in an unexpected snowstorm on the top of Kilimanjaro. While others were freezing and slipping all over the place, I climbed steady and dry. As I ascended at almost 19,500 feet all I kept thinking was how great my feet felt after almost 15 hours of hiking. I joked that my toes felt like they were in their own little mini apartment (I have wide feet). For the price and durability of these boots, I would buy them a hundred times over. This is an amazing product that I would stand behind any day. I never once got blisters, my feet were never once wet - like so many others that promised waterproof technology and even some with more expensive shoes. I wore them for a month straight and never once tired of them. Each time I got to where I was staying and took them off, I was so thankful for them. BUY THESE BOOTS. They are amazing and well worth the money. You will never buy a better pair of trekking boots I promise you that. Thank you for such a great shoe. I would have not made it through the wilderness of Africa without them. January 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hiking in water Spring and early winter are the times I strap on these boots for hiking. I usually take a 9 and in this instance the 9.5 fit me perfectly, especially since I wear thick socks. They have proven themselves totally waterproof and not terribly heavy, perfect for all day ventures trailspotting in the High Sierra and San Francisco Bay Area. Rated 4 out of 5 by Great boot - narrower toe box Even at a 12W boot size, the toe box crowded my toes to the point of a pinch blister under the pinky toe on a 10 day 65 mile breakin trip -- no weight on the back either. The boots are well suited to cool and cold weather hiking, but summer hiking they do not breathe as well as hoped, leaving very damp feet. When using these I will plan to bring at least one more pair of socks. The metal lace cleats are well constructed, but create high wear on laces. Be prepared - bring a spare set of laces with you, or start your trek with new laces. The 'grippiness' of the cleats is much appreciated - the boots do not require adjusting during the day and the laces do not slip. But they do tear up laces! Outstanding durability and comfort otherwise - after 65 miles, they show no wear other than normal scuffing. I can easily see these going for years and years -- if they fit you properly.
