I've spent a week in these boots, and while my feet feel great, my ankles are taking a beating. I really want to like these boots, but there are some spots on my ankles that I can't seem to get any relief. I've tried lacing a few different ways to no avail. Is this a common problem with the Summit GTX? IF this is truly part of the break in process, I'll try to tough it out

The first pair unfortunately had a hook pull loose, but the second pair has been great. After Hundreds of miles they are finally starting to break in. Hey lets face it, these boots are going to last me a very very long time. Some people complained of squeaking, but I like it. Sounds like a saddle. I went through the Beartooth Mountains this last summer with 50 pounds on my back. The boots kept me from twisting an ankle a number of times. They gave me grip on rock, dirt, and mud. My feet stayed very nicely dry. They are a bit heavy, but that was the price I wanted to pay for stability of my ankle.
I also have an issue with Plantar Facitiis, the boot soles supported the foot perfectly.

Just got my third pair today and have to say it does not disappoint. I use these as my work boots since I'm on my feet running around a machine shop 10 hours a day. These are the only boots I buy anymore. They last a little over two years which I think brings great value. If they stop making this boot I may have to shed a tear.

Fourth Vasque boot between two in the family. Our first two pairs lasted 25+ years. Summit GTX boots are as great as my first pair. My first Vasque boots were made in Italy. When I saw that these were made in China, frankly, I bought another high end made in USA brand. Kind of a disappointment, on my third pair in 2 years of those because of two defective pairs and finally came back to Vasque. Cushioning inside is soft but rugged, never have had a wet foot in any of our Vasque.boots. Never a sore spot, never a blister in many miles. Used on hiking trails 3-5 miles everyday the weather allows.
My wife's first boots were given to her at Christmas '87. Well it wasn't jewerly and was looked at as "nice"... For 28 years she has been thanking me! In 2014 I replaced them for her. And she still thanks me and still has both in service. Never a wet foot, never a sore spot!

I've had these boots for 3 years now with countless miles on them in every imaginable terrain. Snow, rocks, mud, dirt, hills, water, etc. and they have never let me down! Then only time they have been wet on the inside is when I got caught in an absolute downpour of a rainstorm in shorts and the water ran down from the top around my ankles. I clean them and put mink oil on them after every trip which has served them well. They don't look like new, I've replaced the laces several times and am now using brown 550 paracord which has lasted longer than any others. I am an Assistant Scoutmaster for my boys Boy Scout Troop and we do monthly trips, most of which require a lot of hiking and backpacking. Our trip planned for 2016 is a 5 day backpacking trip in the Rockies and will summit Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive on consecutive days. I'll be buying my 2nd pair of these soon so they are well broken in before the trip.

For about two years now, I've worked for Red Wing Shoe Co., and I've gotten familiar with literally hundreds of different boots, including many hikers. The Summit is, as a boot, one of the better hiking boots I've ever put on my feet. The leather is tough, yet supple, and the Gore-Tex liner does exactly what it needs to. The only issue that I had was the sole. Excellent grip and stability, but I found that after only a few ascents up some of Colorado's larger mountains, the rubber compound had begun to breakdown and fall apart. That being said, as a hiking boot for less rocky terrain, it's a wonderful boot.

I have had these boots for 6+ years. They have been used for backpacking in the ADKs and Catskills several times a year and also for year round field work as a wildlife technician. If you want a pair of boots that lasts and will be as comfortable as the day you got them, then these are it. Worth every penny. Mine are so worn that the souls are almost treadles and the leather is worn thin, but they still fit better and feel better than 3 other cheap pairs I have tried. I am currently saving for a new pair because I will never ware another pair of boots after these. 100% recommend to anyone backpacking or hiking or working outside.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Raybass Best boot I've had
I'm a geologist in Canada and my pair of Summit GTX boots have seen some extreme duty since 2011 and still could probably handle one more field season. I have even worn them for every-day winter boots the past two years and they've held up so well. These are definitely the best boots I have had. Shopping for another pair for my upcoming summer field work.
