Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sole /boot separation permanent fix. Several years ago the vibram sole began to separate from the boot in the front toe. I used 3M 5200/marine adhesive/black and that was that. I carried the 5200 backpacking to fix my tent. Now my feet are getting wider from wearing flip-flops and boat shoes and my boots are too tight. I'm here looking to get replacement for next summer in the Alps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good boot while it lasted The boot was excellent for the duration of its life I purchased this boot in march of 2014 the soles finally wore out in the winter of 2017. The break in period was negligible and easy and the boot did its job well for the most part. My only complaints are the excessive amount of laces I had to replace and the durability of the sole. Only after a couple of years the sole has worn through but in all fairness I use these boots every day in the woods. I must say that if there where a reasonable way to get these boots resolved I would as the rest of the boot is in better than functional condition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had a pair of these boots for 10 years or so, still running strong. I beat the heck out of these boots and they just keep going. They're absolutely top-of-the-line footwear and I'd definitely buy them again, assuming I at some point I have to. As some of the others have pointed out I recall mine being a bit stiff when I first got them but I just walked in them for a while and they broke in. They're extremely comfortable. A year or so back I stripped the brown outer cover the of a shoelace off then not long after the one on the other side followed. They still work fine with just the inner white core but I started thinking about getting a replacement pair of shoelaces which is why I came here. You seriously can't go wrong with these boots. Now I have to see if I can buy a pair of laces on the site...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Boots and then they weren't I bought these boots to replace a pair of heavy all leather boots that I loved but sadly, after 20 years, my feet got bigger and they no longer fit. I do a lot of backpacking so I wanted something heavy and rugged. These boots lived up to that. My problem though, is that the sole has separated from the leather upper and now flaps when I walk. I did not expect that to happen after only a few years and a few hundred miles. I have a big trip planned for this summer and am not happy that I'll have to break in a new pair of boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 years for ten years I have had these boots the most amazing boots I have ever had. I'm just happy they still make them so I can get more. I have used them for hiking, backpacking also fishing and hunting these boots took a beating from me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong Durable boot I have taken these all over the world, hiked rocky conditions, desert, and hiked down rivers in them. Mine are 5-6 years old and they really stand the test of time. The one thing I should note is that I use Bucks on them a couple times a year to keep the leather in shape and waterproof.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Down to the nub I bought a pair of Vasque Summits from REI in 2010 or so, and I've considered getting the soles replaced here in Vancouver, BC, though for the value of the shoe that may be uneconomical First off the bat, these proved to be a comfortable pair of boots, among the more comfortable of any shoes I have, despite being backpacking boots. They plodded well through backpacking trips, hiking trips, frequent winter use, outdoor working, and the occasional glacier travel, and given their frequency of use held up extremely well - certainly a favorite boot. Water resistance continues to be tenacious, though some holes have eroded into the edge of the tongue. There were a couple hang-ups - the eyelets seemed to shred laces. The ultimate problem was the toe-capping coming lose on the right-boot, which got worse over time until last weekend the toe-cap finally gave out (though the left boot is in much better condition. These boots are worn, the tread is bald and I've finally had to retire them, though I am loath to give them up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a good fit for me I bought these primarily to wear to work, I'm in industrial sales. For roughly the first two months or so they kept a bruise on my right ankle bone. The leather is extremely stiff, and the soles provide minimal cushioning on concrete/asphalt. I went back to the Red Wing store where I bought them, and the owner, Ryan, was very sympathetic that they were uncomfortable, and suggested insoles. Reluctantly I dropped $60 for the insoles he recommended, on top of the $220 to buy them. The aftermarket insoles are substantially thicker and have changed the way they fit, now my toes rub on the inside of the toe box, and I have developed a pain on the outside of my right ankle like something is being strained when I wear them. After 6 months of trying to make them work and spending almost $300 I have accepted that these are just not the boots for me. The quality seems top tier, just not a good fit for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fine for the first 500mi I've previously split the sole from the uppers in other brands, so I gave Vasque a try. These boots sized well and didn't cause any issue during the break-in period. For the first 500mi on the boots they were fantastic, aside from demolishing shoe laces every 100mi (there are rough eyelets on the lower boot). However, right around the 500mi mark the boots started to cause extreme irritation, causing serious blisters on the trail (new to me). I tried all sorts of lacing techniques and sock combination with no avail. It turns out the issue is with the gore-tex liner. It completely separated from the rest of the boot and has started to rub in the toe box and the heel. In normal walking I can feel the liner in the toe box fall and I have to push it back in place. I would have expected 1000-1250mi out of these boots. This is a shame as the leather uppers and soles are in excellent shape and are good for another +500mi. I guess I'll be trying something new for my new boot.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hoping for some relief I've spent a week in these boots, and while my feet feel great, my ankles are taking a beating. I really want to like these boots, but there are some spots on my ankles that I can't seem to get any relief. I've tried lacing a few different ways to no avail. Is this a common problem with the Summit GTX? IF this is truly part of the break in process, I'll try to tough it out

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second time is indeed a charm The first pair unfortunately had a hook pull loose, but the second pair has been great. After Hundreds of miles they are finally starting to break in. Hey lets face it, these boots are going to last me a very very long time. Some people complained of squeaking, but I like it. Sounds like a saddle. I went through the Beartooth Mountains this last summer with 50 pounds on my back. The boots kept me from twisting an ankle a number of times. They gave me grip on rock, dirt, and mud. My feet stayed very nicely dry. They are a bit heavy, but that was the price I wanted to pay for stability of my ankle. I also have an issue with Plantar Facitiis, the boot soles supported the foot perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3rd pair Just got my third pair today and have to say it does not disappoint. I use these as my work boots since I'm on my feet running around a machine shop 10 hours a day. These are the only boots I buy anymore. They last a little over two years which I think brings great value. If they stop making this boot I may have to shed a tear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged Comfort Fourth Vasque boot between two in the family. Our first two pairs lasted 25+ years. Summit GTX boots are as great as my first pair. My first Vasque boots were made in Italy. When I saw that these were made in China, frankly, I bought another high end made in USA brand. Kind of a disappointment, on my third pair in 2 years of those because of two defective pairs and finally came back to Vasque. Cushioning inside is soft but rugged, never have had a wet foot in any of our Never a sore spot, never a blister in many miles. Used on hiking trails 3-5 miles everyday the weather allows. My wife's first boots were given to her at Christmas '87. Well it wasn't jewerly and was looked at as "nice"... For 28 years she has been thanking me! In 2014 I replaced them for her. And she still thanks me and still has both in service. Never a wet foot, never a sore spot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these boots! I've had these boots for 3 years now with countless miles on them in every imaginable terrain. Snow, rocks, mud, dirt, hills, water, etc. and they have never let me down! Then only time they have been wet on the inside is when I got caught in an absolute downpour of a rainstorm in shorts and the water ran down from the top around my ankles. I clean them and put mink oil on them after every trip which has served them well. They don't look like new, I've replaced the laces several times and am now using brown 550 paracord which has lasted longer than any others. I am an Assistant Scoutmaster for my boys Boy Scout Troop and we do monthly trips, most of which require a lot of hiking and backpacking. Our trip planned for 2016 is a 5 day backpacking trip in the Rockies and will summit Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive on consecutive days. I'll be buying my 2nd pair of these soon so they are well broken in before the trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Solid Hiker For about two years now, I've worked for Red Wing Shoe Co., and I've gotten familiar with literally hundreds of different boots, including many hikers. The Summit is, as a boot, one of the better hiking boots I've ever put on my feet. The leather is tough, yet supple, and the Gore-Tex liner does exactly what it needs to. The only issue that I had was the sole. Excellent grip and stability, but I found that after only a few ascents up some of Colorado's larger mountains, the rubber compound had begun to breakdown and fall apart. That being said, as a hiking boot for less rocky terrain, it's a wonderful boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 6 Years of Heavy use. I have had these boots for 6+ years. They have been used for backpacking in the ADKs and Catskills several times a year and also for year round field work as a wildlife technician. If you want a pair of boots that lasts and will be as comfortable as the day you got them, then these are it. Worth every penny. Mine are so worn that the souls are almost treadles and the leather is worn thin, but they still fit better and feel better than 3 other cheap pairs I have tried. I am currently saving for a new pair because I will never ware another pair of boots after these. 100% recommend to anyone backpacking or hiking or working outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boot I've had I'm a geologist in Canada and my pair of Summit GTX boots have seen some extreme duty since 2011 and still could probably handle one more field season. I have even worn them for every-day winter boots the past two years and they've held up so well. These are definitely the best boots I have had. Shopping for another pair for my upcoming summer field work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4 years daily use After 4 years of daily use all year around looking for new pair. They are a little expensive. If you break it over the 4 years it's not bad $50 per year. $50 boots won't hold up or be as comfortable. Hopefully new ones are of same quality. Any discounts for repeat customer loyalty? This is my second pair going on third.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Soles keep breaking I love the fit and comfort of these boots. I have had 3 pairs. I purchased one. The other 2 were warranties. The soles on all 3 pairs broke where the flex at the ball of the foot. One pair made it 16 months, the others less than a year. I will not bother getting this last pair replaced. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This shoe should be made for women AGAIN I have owned 6 or 7 pairs of this boot - in both the men's version and women's version depending on what was in production at any given time, for well over a decade. It has performed very well each time lasting between 2-3 years and i keep the older pairs around as spares in various locations - i wear it year round on a daily basis for work. My only great disappointment is that they have discontinued the women's version. Please bring it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Taken me around the world I purchased these boots back in 2011 (or a pair closely resembling), and I have been beyond happy with my purchase. These boots have taken me to very rugged terrain in Central and South America, for months of abuse in streams, thick mud and rocks; they are still going strong. Along side their durability, they are remarkably comfortable. While it takes a bit to wear them in, these feel like an extension to my body now. The only "problem" is that one of the metal eyelets have snapped off halfway down the boot. Not a problem at all, and understandable for what they've been through. I'd hate to see these boots go, but I'll be sure to buy a new pair from here when that happens.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor quality I have had four pairs of Vasque hiking/backpacking boots. None of which have made it two years without something major going wrong with the boot. I've had the rubber crack through the entire sole, plastic toe cover peel completely off, and have had the boot completely fall apart after one year of hiking. The goretex on this boot will not last because of the poor quality of the construction. I would never recommend this or any of vasque's boots to anyone who hikes or mountaineers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and comfortable I have had mine for 5 years now, and I have hiked many miles in them. They are the best walking boots I have ever had on my feet, and I have tried many brands and styles. I have taken them into the Grand Canyon twice, Mt. Mitchel, Linville Gorge, and many other places. They barely show the wear. They are not light or airy, but if you need tough boots for hard terrain, these are great.
