SOLE

Vasque’s proprietary Vibram® Frontier sole is molded with XSTrek compound and is designed to minimize rubber without sacrificing traction, for an exceptionally light sole. The A.S.E. midsole has the lightness of EVA with the durability and abrasion resistance of polyurethane. Conformable EVA pods in the heel and forefoot deliver running shoe-like comfort as well as allowing the outsole to conform around irregularities in the trail. The sole system was designed to maximize efficiency of walking gait and user comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect 2 years ago I switched from an office job to construction. I bought 3 brands of best rated construction/work boot and experienced almost crippling pain several weeks after trying each one. I was genuinely worried that I would have to quit my job. Out of desperation I visited my local REI and tried on everything they had and settled on what felt best. Within 2 weeks the pain was gone and I was able to work 12 hour days without discomfort. I repeatedly soak these boots in ankle deep water/mud here in Florida and am simply amazed at the waterproofing. Miles per day, mud, heat, rain, over steel rebar, precast concrete, and up and down dozens of flights of steps daily. Now on my second pair and planning on my third in several months. Worth every hard earned cent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Style 8672 Very similar style. Worn daily since 2010 in HVAC service. On my second pair. Expect to last 5 or 6 years until vibrum sole wear through. Then the store folks patched them up so i can cut the lawn in the older pair. Super shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Field Geologist Approved! I am a professional academic geologist -- a graduate student researcher, who NEEDS good boots to do her job. And let me tell you: I've taken this same pair of boots everywhere, from glaciers and glacial morains in Alberta, Canada to the desert SW of the United States, to the cooling lava flows of the Big Island of Hawaii, and most recently to the mountains of southern Namibia. My work generally has me in the field for two weeks up to 60 days at a time, with ~10 miles of hiking and ~1000-ft elevation gain on rugged terrains every day (on average). These boots made it everywhere, with decent tread/traction, no breaches of the waterproof layer, and comfortable lining too (no blisters). I've had the same pair for about 3 years with this kind of treatment, PLUS I wear them casually around town and in the the lab, as well as for recreational day hikes when I am not in the field. They have performed admirably, and the only reason I am buying a new pair now is that I finally wore the tread smooth this summer in Namibia. (Even so, they are still waterproof, comfortable, and perfectly functional on surfaces that are rough enough to provide traction independently.) I cannot recommend these boots enough. NOTE: if you are not using them frequently, they may be a little stiff and stuffy. And of course, they don't "breathe" because they are hardy and waterproof. But I've accepted my stinky feet as the price you pay for a truly effective field boot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like war tanks I bought my St Elias in Canada and since then I have finished different treks and peaks with the same original ones; Trek de Santa Cruz (Cordillera Blanca Peru), Salkantay (Peru), Camino del Inca (Peru), Trek W Torres del Paine (Patagonia Chile), Rumińaui, Illiniza Norte, Corazón, Rucu and Guagua Pichincha (Ecuador), various in Spanish Pirineos and 3 weeks ago I finished the GR20 in Corsica, a killer test for any boot. Now the Vibram sole begins to loose anti splint properties, same as Gore-Tex becomes to be weak,... but it happens after a serious heavy duty experiences ! I’m happy with my boots, nothing else to say. Best regards from BCN !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed Extremely difficult to break in. I've owned for +3 months and even wearing them daily, they are still not broken in. I've conditioned the leather twice to try to soften them as well. I am unable to hike for more than two miles without discomfort. Vidram soles are now down to 70% tread left. This is not the Vibram quality I've had in the past. The tread may be gone by the time the boots break in. The lower eyelets have severed the outer casing of the parachute cord laces in multiple locations on both boots. I expect better from a $200 pair of boots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super solid boots After wearing an assortment of "high end" hiking boots throughout the years and not being totally satisfied I decided to give theses a go because of the Gor-Tex and the Vibram sole. 2 of the most important features for me in a boot. Usually you only get 1 or the other and with this boot there is no compromise. They are very comfortable and light weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small Toe Box I love these boots. Have worn them daily for almost 2 years, they have a lot of miles on them. The only problem is the width. I usually ware a 11.5 wide but they were tight across the toes. I went to a 12 wide and they're great.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sharp Eyelets These boots have been very comfortable from the start. I wear them every day at my job where I teach fire safety classes. I am outside in all sorts of weather and my feet have kept warm and dry. My main complaint is the eyelets. I have been through two sets of hoe laces in the nine months that I have had them. The first time I laced them up outside the store I could feel the laces rubbing against a sharp edge somewhere in the eyelets. So far I can narrow it down to one eyelet but i can't find the sharp edge in the eyelet. Also the first set of speed lace hooks started to bend on each boot. I would really suggest finding a different supplier for that part of the boot.
