When you imagine what a hiking boot should be, the Sundowner is the vision that comes to mind. The longevity and fan loyalty of this style is no fluke; the simplicity, function and elegance of this hiker may very well be boot nirvana.

UPPER

One piece, USA-tanned, 2.4 mm S.B. Foot leather upper is the ultimate in durability and comfort. Less seams equal fewer hotspots and the longer you wear them, the more custom the fit becomes. A Gore-Tex® membrane protects from inclement conditions, and classic d-ring eyelets are tried and true and offer speed lacing. New for 2015, the Sundowner will be built around the original shaped last, for the classic fit so many have trusted on the trail.

SOLE

Once again, the Sundowner is offered in the original rubber traction sole with polyurethane midsole. This combination is a perfect blend of trail support and comfort for long miles. Vasque’s proprietary Pyrenees rubber sole takes direct design cues from the original, with aggressive lug pattern, excellent mud clearing and rockered heel for a natural foot transition on trails. The single density polyurethane midsole is coupled with a PU comfort footbed for excellent torsional structure for rough trails while offering great underfoot comfort for long days out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Used to be great, now they stink The old Italian Sundowners were fantastic. The cheap Chinese replacements stink. I replaced my Italians not knowing and I am not happy. I told my GF to buy a pair not knowing and her soles fell off. Vasque just said "oh well", must be dry rot, without looking at the boots. Wonder what my next brand will be? Know what it WON'T be!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality, Terrible Warranty We bought these from a local retailer some time ago. My daughter wore them once and the top hook loop fell off. Considering the amount of money we spent on them I was positive they would be covered under warranty. I guess we didn't look close enough. Only one year coverage and only if we kept the receipt. They should really look at what their competition is offering. So now we have a basically new pair of boots with next to zero wear that has a broken loop. Disappointing

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Excellent Made Boot, for people with long skinny feet When these first arrived in the mail, I gasped. Beautiful shoes, quality stitching and I love the concept of well crafted nearly-single-piece leather design. However, that's where the praise stops. I ordered a size up and wide, and I can't even get my left foot into these. I'm sooo upset. I don't think boot companies want to give people with wide feet a chance. If I take the insoles out, I can fit my right foot if I wear a thin sock, decent ankle but there's almost a half inch in length in the front. After doing a lot of research online (and calling a local cobbler), I don't even think I can get them stretched at a cobbler to fit a true wide foot. So I'm not going to attempt it and I'm sending them back, which is a shame and leaves me stuck with lower quality brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 35 years before I bought new ones just as good I bought my first pair of Sundowners in 1976 when you actually drew the outline of your foot on a piece of paper and mailed it in to get sized perfectly! I wore them for 35 years before the soles came off. I confess I did not take the best care of them, but the boots took great care of me. I got a new pair several years ago and they fit and wear as well as the first pair. I don't know the "manufacturing" issues that are addressed in some of these reviews, but I'm not experiencing any problems. Buying a pair now for my daughter's 50th birthday present and expect that hers will last forever.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from High Hopes, Let Down This shoe came highly recommended by both family and friends who had had this style for years. As I've just begun an internship requiring brown polishable hiking boots, I thought these would be perfect. I bought them online, thinking I'd have plenty of time to break them in at home before hitting the field. At first the right pinky toe was being squished, which I thought would get better with time. HOWEVER it's been over a month now and each time I put these boots on another problem area arises. I have blisters on my heels, my toes can't stand to be in these boots for more than a few hours at best, and no matter which hiking socks I wear I can't find any relief. Perhaps I should have sized up, but I had read nothing indicating a need to. Overall, what I thought would be a beautiful, sensible pair of boots has been nothing but a painful mistake I have been too slow to admit. Now that I am stuck with them, I'm at a loss for what to do, though I hope it won't result in a painful summer of field work...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bait and switch I bought these boots based on a recommendation from a friend that had an older pair, and loved them. I was not aware of the history of the manufacture location and the associated changes. I thought I was getting great hiking boots, but instead I got an extremely uncomfortable boot that I can't break in, and would not think of wearing hiking. I have had these boots for a while and thought the problem was my feet. I kept them because of their reputation, hoping one day they would get better. I was looking for new hiking boots this morning, and found some reviews with similar situations to mine, and I realized it was not my feet that is causing the issue. When vasque cheapened the boot they should have changed the name not the 3 letter code that no one pays attention to. Vasqe will not be included in my search for new boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase I bought my boots in 2016 and wear them close to everyday for my job. They are amazing. I love these boots. Great choice.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Huge waste of money Years later, I still could not break these things in. Your feet will break in long before the boots.
